Igan as a companion

_{Gina: (tagalog-english)} Igan was a gift to me from my best friend, “matalik na kaibigan na taga Vigan, kaya Igan.” She gave it to me since she knew how depressed I was when my Chihuahua, 14 years old, died.

_Gina: When I brought Igan to her first visit to an animal clinic, the doctor asked med to write her name under the Pet’s name IGAN, and when I write the Owner’s name GINA, it came to my attention that her name was a rumbled letter of my name. 

_{(tagalog-english)} She’s so malambing but she is also suplada. She is very known in the clinic na iyakin at maingay at matapang. Pag nakakita ng mas malaking aso, lalo syang tahol ng tahol.

_{(english version)} She is very sweet, but at the same time, her personality shines through especially when there are big dogs around – she barks at them.

_Gina: She sleeps in our bed. She also popo and wewe sa fave spot nya na may flooring mat or pag walang floor mat, sa CR talaga sya kahit walang formal training.

_{(english version)} She uses the bathroom if possible, even though she didn’t have proper training.

_{Gina: (tagalog-english)}She likes to be kissed and hugged. Cudly masyado. Pag may sumpong, ayaw mag-kiss, pero pag ok naman sya eh sabihan mo ng kiss, laging kiss naman. Selosa sya kahit sa tao o sa hayp. Gusto nya lang attention namin ni Lexcs.

_{(english version)}She is very cuddly. Igan also has tantrums; she will not kiss you then, but once she feels okay again, just ask for a kiss, and she’ll gladly give it to you. She gets jealous of other people and other animals, and she only demands mine and Lexcs’ attention.

I trained with her periodically. She is the closest I could have as my own / as a pet. I love her so much! She is very sweet, gentle, loves to be petted, and happy with food. -Tilde

Piper had been my companion when I was living independently in the Philippines before coming to Denmark. She mended by broken heart by just being there, cuddly, sleeping with me in my room, and being a furry friend who stayed up while I was writing, working and procastinating at night. Piper passed away three years after I left. She was 7-years old when she joined her furry friends in heaven.

When you think about learning and engaging more deeply with your pet- a dog, a cat, a horse, or any other species, means that you can see yourself being with the animal for many years, while living together in harmony. I’ve been reading the book that Roberto gave to me, The Human Zoo by Desmond Morris, which talks about how humans are trapped in an unnatural environment. I recommend you read the book too! It has been one of Roberto Barata’s inspirations in conducting research and writing.

Dogs can do tricks that can contribute to mental stimulation and brain health.

Find pleasure in talking to people

I enjoy listening to other people’s stories and hearing about their words of wisdom, and sometimes sharing my thoughts about it, without the need to be emotionally involved. So, go out, talk to a stranger, accomplish a project with someone, join a mini marathon, attend a yoga class, join events in your local community, be a volunteer for the meantime, while looking for a new job or a career break. You can even try to entertain your artistic side to create an artwork in your garden, to paint, learn pottery, grow Dahlia flowers or even creating a sculpture with other people.

Being bored means the beginning of creativity. Celebrate your triumphs everyday whenever you drink a cup of coffee, tea, etc. Nourish your body and mind with good thoughts, procastinate, and pray – it’s free! And when you feel blue, remember to breath in and breath out – it calms your nervous system.

Looking back a few years ago, when we built our house in Ringsted, feels a little strange at this moment. A new chapter just started, and like our children and pets, Jacob and I feel a sense of a big transition happening quickly. Our goals are the same, but probably a lot simpler and more practical than they seemed.

Now that we have moved to a new place in Jutland (Jylland), I’ll definitely miss our beautiful view of nature, our good friends, and our sweet neighbors. at the same time, we are looking forward to our new home in Fårup (Randers municipality) in the next few months!
